We were focused. Young, hungry, driven…working tirelessly to be “successful”. Similar story. But, through this chase came the realization; that’s was not what we wanted at all. After years of education and jobs to simply make more money, we suddenly realized our plans were lacking something. Purpose.

The empty, nagging feeling lingered. What was our purpose? Shouldn’t we be doing something more meaningful? If we don’t do this, what would we do? Is this all there is?

These are the questions that began doingmypart.com.

Overcome with ideas and possibilities, the whiteboard in our apartment quickly became black. A brand name emerged that had come to represent something that we stood for. A positive culture, and new opportunity and a world where anyone can make a difference.

We didn’t know who needed help the most…and we didn’t care. We wanted to help them all. Veterans, homeless children, families dealing with cancer, natural disaster victims, clean water projects, abused and neglected children, education programs and more. They all deserved a chance and we were gonna find a way.

“What if we found projects to help people and families….the made it ridiculously simple for everyone to help out?!…I like that…What if everyone could “do their part” for charity? YES! “Okay, for $3 … no, $3/month!…YES!!”…. then we can show our progress on video for the world to see?”… Whoooa….

…and just like that, in a 3rd floor Camden apartment in Ballantyne, doingmypart.com was born.

Today, we’re on a new journey. This time it’s different. It’s no longer about the income…it’s about the impact.

Fast forward through the legal and paperwork mumbo jumbo, the trademark and the website development, doingmypart.com was introduced to Charlotte, NC in in July of 2012.

Since then we have…

- given 150 local homeless children with new shoes and socks, backpacks and school supplies

- given a child who lost his home and his father a $1,000 college scholarship

- produced an event that resulted in 5 full college scholarships for children with incarcerated fathers.

…all of this has been done $3 dollars at a time. As you read this, we have projects in queue; people in need, waiting for us. each and every one of us, to do our part.

Every new community member is a celebration as 210 individuals are now “doing their part” for $3/month. It’s so simple: The more people that do their part, the more lives we can impact.

So, what are future plans?

Our 5 year goal is to reach 1,000,000 people doing their part, to build ‘Doing My Part’ into a household brand; a standard for today’s conscious global citizen. Think “life is good” with a charitable fundraising model, mixed with Extreme Makeover Home Edition and HULU. An brand that engages, entertains, builds our communities and encourages service and unity for all.

$3 at at time, one project at a time, from now on.

Doing My Part, Inc. receives tax exempt 501c3 status in April of 2013 and will be taking this grassroots effort to a national scale. Through fundraising support from local and national foundations, corporations, private donors, crowdfunding efforts and sponsorships we’re building a sustainable positive impact brand that will last: Doing My Part.

In our connected world we all have a conscious decision to make. To become part of the solution, or stand by and leave it to someone else. We believe that when given the chance, people will help each other. So, our purpose is now clear: to give everyone a simple way to become part of that solution…by doing your part.

Since the beginning, there have been a change of plans. Just an idea, turned into a reality and now that it’s here…it’s humbling and I feel very fortunate.

We didn’t have the trademark. We didn’t have the domain name. But we had the will to make “doing my part” a reality and now we are here. Josh and I built the platform…but we didn’t build it for us…we built it for all of us.

So, where are we?

Our “501c3 status” is coming this month (supposed to be last month, we love the IRS!) and finalizing our marketing promotional book that explains the movement and the vision to make this a success, step by step.

But what we really need, is your support. It’s very simple…

1) We have people that need help

2) You can help them in 60 seconds, without leaving your house or breaking the bank

3) We’ll show you how we’re changing the world together on video as it happens.

When we all say “alright, this makes sense”, and take action, we become unstoppable and our impact is limitless.

This is where the movement starts. One simple decision from each of us. We could not be happier than to have our friends join dmp and the experience all the good that will come with it’s growth. Thanks for your support.

Mike

PROJECT: COMPLETE!

Together, our community raised $1500, $3 at a time, to help these homeless children in Charlotte NC…

For our first project, we worked with 117 homeless children in Charlotte NC. These kids were staying at the Salvation Army Center of Hope and are transitional in where they sleep at night. We also partnered with Samaritan’s Feet and the local Doing My Part Street Team to get the shoes and the mentors to carry out the project. Check out the project video…

Many of these children either…
- don’t have shoes
- have shoes that are too big or two small for their feet
- have shoes that are old, worn and torn which get’s them made fun of at school
- don’t have school supplies to attend school with
- have limited access to a mentor

How you helped…and what each child received
- Brand new pair of shoes
- Brand new pair of socks
- A foot wash
- Brand new backpack with school supplies
- A mentor to give a message of hope and love

Thanks for doing your part….and on to the next one:

PROJECT: COMPLETE!

…thanks to our members, we were able to reach our second project goal of giving $1,000 scholarship funds to Zacorian. His father is in prison, as his mom and himself just lost their home.

Meet Zacorian below in the videos:

Thanks to the Dinner and a Show event in Charlotte NC on December 1st, 2012, produced by doingmypart.com and patnering non-profit, all of the children you will see below received a FULL COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP!

________________________________________________________________

Problem: 50-70% of children with incarcerated parents, end up in prison themselves…

Solution: Proverbs 22:6 Mentorship Program to take these at-risk children and guide them all the way through college.

What we did:

Worked with Proverbs 22:6 Team to create a Dinner and a Show (Talent Show) for over 200 possible children with inmate fathers in the Kershaw Correctional facility in Kershaw SC.

For 6 weeks, doingmypart.com and Proverbs 22:6 travelled North and South Carolina to find these underpriveledged children and inspire them to go for their dreams.

Our goals:

1) start by mending the relationships between the fathers and their children by with events that bring them together…

2) give their children an opportunity to participate in a the Dinner and a Show (Talent Show) @ Ballantyne Hotel in Charlotte, NC to win funding for college.

3) Afterwards the program takes them through the 4 step process:

engage, encourage, educate, enable these children and take them all the way through college..

Come along for the ride…here’s where it all starts…
